    Hi,

I have a Sparc 5 110 with 64 Mb ram, 1.0 Gb HDD. 3 attempts so far using the
text Yast I have found it always has 2 RPM errors during the initial
installation. Yast 2 gives the same errors with only one attempt. This is
definately not a CD read error.

My problem is that I can't get it to boot from the HDD. I don't know if the
RPM errors are related to the disk boot problem or not yet. I've tried the
manual boot command from the OK prompt, and directed the OPB to the disk and
partition as found by the probe-scsi command. No luck so far, and I won't
have time to look again for a week or two (I've got to work damn it!) but
through my profession I have access to the Sun Solve site, and I except to
get a solution sooner or later.

The other issue I've seen is with the Suse floppy image. Trying to boot from
the FDD gave an error about the "magic number in disk label". This refers to
the checksum for the disk, which is stored in the disk label, and is
    obviously not right.

    regards,
    Bryce

I have an SS5/110 here with 64MB of RAM and a 1GB disk that the
installation went perfectly well on. I can move a little more RAM or
disk onto it (I can move the 2GB disk from my now-idle SS20 into it or
stick an external spare 4GB disk onto it (that I normally have a copy of
Solaris on)). Basically, I can try to build a testcase here which is
    similar to yours.

Only if dire will I move my SS5/70 into being the test machine... it's
currently being my router/dns/dhcp/etc. machine with over 93 days of
    uptime. ;)

Chris, you prick. :) You know where to find me on IRC (OpenProjects,
irc.linux.com, #sparc ... if you've suddenly forgotten). Find me there
sometime and we'll try to set me up similarly.

It's funny... some people have been complaining about SCSI errors with
their SS5's... the only problems I've had with an SS5 is the 170MHz one,
    but that's a special case.

Anyways, if I don't see it on one of my machines, you can probably give
me more info by looking at the other virtual consoles during
installation. I'll talk to you soon...
