Hmm... ok, so I'll play with my SS5/110 here and see if I can recreate
some of these issues...

Hmm... boot of the install CD and mount the root and /boot partitions
and check if both a kernel and silo are installed.

Yep, the floppy boot image is broken... just boot off of cd or network
for now.
