My two cents -
This is EXACTLY the behavior I saw in doing the install. I followed the
same steps you did (mine is on a SS10). I had originally assumed I had a
corrupted 1st image, or a problem in my SCSI chain. Did a lot of fiddling
with SCSI termination, SCSI block size jumpers on the drive, cable
experimentation, etc.
Although I can't point to one 'causative' factor, it did finally work with
one of our older SCSI devices, and I did not have to re-burn the CD. I
can't see any evidence that the image is bad, either, as we have since used
the same CD many times.
Probably not too helpful, but perhaps offers some insight.
