Has anyone had any success playing audio CD's
on an internal SPARC CD-ROM drive, with the
output coming out of the workstation's built in
speaker?
I have recompiled my kernel with support for
the CS4231 audio chipset, and cat'ted a few
WAV files to /dev/audio to test it. The sound
came out way too loud, and it sounded like
the file was played too slowly - but there
was output at least.
The next thing I tried to do was compile
xmmix and xmcd, configuring the latter to
support my Toshiba CD-ROM drive. The mixer
works (after fixing a syntax problem in
the source), and I now have control of the
speaker's volume.
Xmcd also compiled, and recognised that
there was an audio CD in the drive when I
ran it. It appears to play the CD, but no
sound comes out of the SparcStation's
speaker.
Does anyone know if I should open the
machine up and connect the drive to the
motherboard in some way to enable sound
output?
Chris
