    Hi,

Ok, I'm back from vacation, and I hope I have know more time
to look at all the bug reports.

If you say, the system starts up in XDM mode, do you really
see XDM or KDM ? This is important.

If you see XDM, do you have configured X11 with YaST2 ?
The german type 6 keyboard is no problem, I use one, too. And
    it works great.

Can you tell me more about your hardware ? Maybe the output of
    hwinfo, too ?
If <ALT><CTRL><F-Key> does not work as usual, could it be that
you have a Mach64 graphic card with the XF86_Mach64 server ? Then
    you should try <CTRL><META><F-Key>
If you use QT applications, this could also be a QT bug. QT does
not allow always switching the console. But I thought this was
    fixed.

Linux is like a Vorlon. It is incredibly powerful, gives terse,
cryptic answers and has a lot of things going on in the background.
