If you say, the system starts up in XDM mode, do you really
see XDM or KDM ? This is important.
If you see XDM, do you have configured X11 with YaST2 ?
The german type 6 keyboard is no problem, I use one, too. And
it works great.
Can you tell me more about your hardware ? Maybe the output of
hwinfo, too ?
If <ALT><CTRL><F-Key> does not work as usual, could it be that
you have a Mach64 graphic card with the XF86_Mach64 server ? Then
you should try <CTRL><META><F-Key>
If you use QT applications, this could also be a QT bug. QT does
not allow always switching the console. But I thought this was
fixed.
