ok... I just tried Yast 2 - worked fine - now I have the SMP kernel
installed (fresh installation).
Another note - Yast 2 seems to have trouble figuring out how to partition
the 'whole disk' if the disk was already partitioned - complains about
using highest number partition or something to that effect. Of course I
went into Custom partitioning, etc... to partition it manually after I
noticed this problem.
SILO difference compared to Yast 1 (no SILO configuration mentioned), Yast
2 mentions that I have an existing operating system (my previous
install?)... and that it will install SILO to /dev/sda1.
Also - I happen to have a *semi-functional* mouse on my system... and I
don't have a *proper* mouse-pad - so I found the requests to
'double-click' on packages to select/deselect (getting rid of
'pads' package from minimal install) particularly irritating.
You might laugh at this one... but I actually flip a CD over for an
improvised reflective surface - and this works marginally.
Given the mouse situation... I obviously tab around as much as possible -
but the 'Alt' style shortcuts (underlined letters) didn't seem to
work... if Alt-N, etc... is the correct way to attempt keyboard shortcuts.
I recently ordered one of the 'Sun-interface converters' so I can use a
ps/2 keyboard/mouse - hopefully that will work OK. I also have the video
going to a PC monitor. My intent is to integrate my Sun controls in a
Belkin OmniCube 4-port switch where I currently have 3 PC's attached -
video is working fine right now with the PC monitor.
For the 'checkbox' areas - I'm not sure if my keyboard has problems... or
the mapping is wrong... but eventually I discovered that '4/left arrow' on
my numeric keypad would advance to the next box in the checkbox groups.
thanks for the all the help ;-)
