    Hi Jens,

    Got also a SS4 running Suse-7.1
    No special actiones needed for using the optical mouse.
    I would suspect a (mechanical) defect of the mouse. (or myxomatosis)
    You mention "a tin plate", you'll need a optical mouse pad with the proper
    grid, a simple metal plate will not work.
    Any chance for swapping it with an other SUN-mouse, (just for testing).
