First of all, thanks for all the replies,
Looks like the $100 is not wasted.
Before ordering i noted that physical dimensions and SCA-connector
are identical to the 2G drive i have currently,
And according to the specs with a jumper the selection can be made
between differential or single ended mode.
What i failed to see in time, was that LVD-drives uses different
electric levels for logical "0" or logical "1",
And according to Seagate, that LVD-drives and HVD-drives should not
be mixed!
Well at least Thomas got the drive working, so i have good hopes.
I 'll report the results, when the drive arrives....
Hans.

Hello out there,
exactly this disk is running here in my SS20 with no probs. Sure
because of the sun design the disk doesnt run at the max. possible speed
(about 6-7mb/s) but it is running fine....
Dont forget: put a better fan in, the drive needs cooling.

You really need to determine what the SCSI interface card is. It
seems
reasonable if your current SCSI drive is differential then a new
differential drive should work. Finding this out will probably
entail
removing the cover and taking a peak. Look for the existing drive
and SCSI
card and write down the model numbers.

The best advice I can give you is to find the technical info on the current
drive you are using in your SS20. This will tell you if you are using the
LVD or HVD.

The SS20 takes Narrow SCSI SCA drives, but UW and probably LVD will
work as
the yare backwards compatible, I have used two 4GB UW scsi disks in
my SS20
with no problems. Heat may be an issue on larger disks, and remember
the
SS20 only takes low profile drives 1" high.
