    Can you ping another host within your local LAN and did you provide a
    DNS entry in the resolv.conf ?
    Also, can you ping a valid IP with respect to the outside world (for
    example: 205.188.212.121, which resolves to 'ftp.netscape.com'). It
    sound sto me like you have a IP resolve issue.
