Hi,
don't know anything about the Ultra 1, but may this work ?
Install the new HD, boot SuSE from CD-ROM, but instead of
running yast2, use "manual" at the boot prompt. Then run
the "rescue system" from CD-ROM (in yast1's text menus:
"Start Installation","Rescue System" "From CD-ROM")
Now you should have a running suse linux, try to run "fdisk"
on the new drive. Check "/proc", dmesg, and Console 3 (or 10?)
for system messages.
You can check the system messages of the boot procedure
while in the "manual" mode of yast1 as well. I don't know if you
need modules, but might worth checking it.
