Subject: [suse-sparc] Sparc freezes while configuring grafic-card.

    Hi all,

    we have a Sparc Enterprise 450 and I have a serious problem. Installing
    Linux 7.1 Enterprise Server for Sparc using Yast2 is completely
    unproblematic. After that I've tried to configure the X-Server using SAX.
    SAX uses the driver for Mach_64 and it works propperly. But at the section
    for the graphic-card the sparc freezes irregularily. Sometimes I'm able to
    switch to the test-screen, sometimes not.
    The graphic-card is a PGX+ (I've opened the sparc and examined the card
    itself and found it to be using an ATI 3D Rage Pro chipset; BIOS-Version
    RAGE PR - PQFP - 41901 - 104; 8MB RAM; no RAM-DAC (? At least I wasn't able
    to find one.)). Referring to the database provided by ATI at their homepage
    the card is a ALL-IN-WONDER PRO or an XPERT*. The drivers should support
    these card(s) but nevertheless the sparc freezes.
    Reading the FAQs at SuSE.de left me as helpless as before. The
    support-hotline of the sparcs' vendor couldn't help me as well.
    Is somebody familiar with these problem or did somebody know where to find
    help referring to this topic?

    wir haben eine Sparc Enterprise 450 und ich habe ein Problem. Die
    Installation von Linux 7.1 Enterprise Server für Sparc ist absolut
    unproblematisch. Danach habe ich versucht den X-Server mit SAX zu
    konfigurieren. SAX benutzt dabei den Treiber für Mach_64 und alles geht
    auch soweit. Aber sobald ich die Grafik-Karte konfigurieren will, friert
    die Sparc eratisch ein. Manchmal komm ich noch bis zum Testbildschirm,
    manchmal aber auch nicht.
    Bei der Grafik-Karte handelt es sich um eine PGX+ (Ich hab' die Kiste mal
    aufgeschraubt und mir die Karte angeschaut. Sie hat einen ATI 3D Rage Pro
    Chipsatz; BIOS-Version RAGE PR - PQFP - 41901 - 104; 8MB RAM; keinen
    RAM-DAC (? Hab zumindest keinen gefunden.)). Laut der Datenbank, die bei

    PRO oder eine XPERT*. Der Treiber sollte diese Karte(n) eigentlich
    unterstützen, trotzdem friert er jedesmal ein.
    Ich habe mich in den FAQs bei SuSE.de umgeschaut, bin aber genauso ratlos
    wie vorher. Die Service-Hotline des Herstellers der Sparc konnte mir auch
    nicht helfen.
    Ist jemandem dieses Problem bekannt oder weißt jemand, wo ich Hilfe
    diesbezüglich finden kann?
