Hullo SuSE SPARC listers,
On Nov 19th I sent a message to the list describing problems I was
having with an attempt to install 7.1 on a SPARCstation 5. I was
underwhelmed with replies, I think there was one suggesting that the
media must be faulty. As I had used the same CD to install on a SS10, I
didn't think this likely.
Just now I have tried again with the same bad result. When YaST2 starts
package install it eventually announces an error in install.
Switching to the virtual console 2 the following text is found:
usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2 : line 264 : 180 Bus error y2bignfat
"$modulename" $moduleargs qt -T -style=platinum -fn
On console 3 :
usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2 : /bin/sleep: Input/Output error [this repeated
four times]
usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2.start return code is 32256 (error=9)
On console 4:
esp0 : SCSI bus reset interrupt
CD-ROM i/o error [xx]* 0b:00 sector 264340 [followed by multiple other
similar lines involving difft sectors until the whole proceeding falls
over] *sorry can't read my scrawlings at this point
Does anyone have the faintest idea what this means? The main difference
between the SS5 and the SS10 is that the SS10 install did not involve
the use of an external drive housing with several disks, one of them
being the target disk in this case. Is it some obscure gotcha involving
the SCSI bus and terminations?
