Hi all!
I have a Sparcstation IPX with a
501-2062 Quad Ethernet Controller (SQEC-S)
sbus card. It is basically a qec controller with
4 lance ethernet chips (qe0-qe3).
The IPX has OpenBoot ROM Rev 2.9 and 64 MBytes of RAM.
I intend to use the IPX as a Firewall/Router with DMZ.
(Hence the Quad ethernet card)
If I do a "show-devs" at the OpenBoot prompt I get the
location for the qec and the qe3 down to qe0:
/sbus/@1,f8000000/qec@1,20000
/sbus/@1,f8000000/qec@1,20000/qe@3,0
/sbus/@1,f8000000/qec@1,20000/qe@2,0
/sbus/@1,f8000000/qec@1,20000/qe@1,0
/sbus/@1,f8000000/qec@1,20000/qe@0,0
I can perform "test-all /sbus/@1,f8000000/qec@1,20000"
at the OpenBoot prompt and everything looks good.
I have installed SuSE Linux 7.1 for Sparc with the standard Kernel
(2.2.18)
Using Yast to add hardware support for "Sun QuadEthernet"
results in a fatal crash at boot:
<CRASH DUMP>
sunqe.c:v2.0 9/9/99 David S. Miller (davem@redhat.com)
QuadEther: Cannot reset QE channel!
FAULT: NMI received
SREGS: Synchronous Error 00000000
Synchronous Vaddr fe01300b
Asynchronous Error 00000020
Asynchronous Vaddr fe01300b
</CRASH DUMP>
Note:
1) It is said that Sun4c have problems with Sun Quad Ethernet
if the OpenBoot Prom version is less than 2.0. This IPX has
OpenBoot version 2.9.
2) "modprobe sunqe" hangs the system (kicks me out to the OpenBoot
prompt).
3) I have tried SuSE Linux 7.3 for Sparc. No difference.
Hmm. What have I done wrong?
Any help appreciated!
Regards,
Per Bogren
