Subject: [suse-sparc] Sparc-SuSE 7.3 Samba 2.2.1a broken

    After much effort, I could not get samba (server) from the sparc SuSE 7.3
    distribution (2.2.1a) to work properly with my home LAN. I finally
    uninstalled samba and samba-client and installed the SuSE 7.1 sparc version,
    2.0.7. This version works as expected.

    Below is a sample of the error messages from /var/log/samba/log.myPCname

    [2001/12/11 21:27:10, 0] lib/util_sec.c:assert_gid(97)
      Failed to set gid privileges to (-1,65534) now set to (0,0) uid=(0,0)
    [2001/12/11 21:27:10, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1101)
      PANIC: failed to set gid

     And here is a sample from /var/log/samba/log.smbd

    [2001/12/11 21:27:49, 0] smbd/connection.c:yield_connection(62)
      yield_connection: tdb_delete failed with error Record does not exist.

    I am running a SparcStation20 with a fresh install of SuSE 7.3.

    I hope this message saves someone some needless aggravation.
