I'm coming only with a question. In the message posted by Thomas Ortlepp
he's talking about acroread. Is there a version of acrobat reader
compiled for sparc-linux? If there is where can I get one?
Thanks,
Aurelian
PS: For the problem mentioned, I know nothing about the Xsun24 server.
You may try the 8 bit depth one and if it still hangs, try to upgrade to
the latest version from www.xfree86.org (I think it is 4.0.2, but no
binaries for sparc-linux are available yet, so you'll have to compile it
from sources). Also I think that in 4.0.2 you do not have any more a
separate server, but instead you got drivers for different video cards.
So, even if you will be able to use Xsun24 as displaying server, don't
do it because you gona use an another server than the 4.0.2 one. And
just another point, take a look first on their page to see if the
Creator cards are supported. From my knowledge the last kernels have
direct graphics support for Creator framebuffers so an accelerated X
server for those cards should be also somewhere out there.
I'll be intrested to know if someone had tested the 4.0.2 server with a
CG framebuffer driver (I don't have the system beside me for instance so
I don't know what version of CG card I have, but I can say that's a
Ultra1 probably with a CG3 card - 8bit depth one).
And just one other fact: I remember that the suse 7 comes with 4.0
version of the X server, but I don't know what's the version of the Xsun
display server. When I gona get to my sun computer I'm gona verify it
and I'll come with another mail if somebody else haven't done it before.
It could be intresting to know if somebody else has succeded to use a
more recent driver (and if it was better) on his sun computer.
