    I have a SS10 w/64mb ram and a 1g drive - definitely not a 'throw away' with
    dual processors...

One thing I noticed on an install a while back... 'pads' or 'kpads' (I
forget which) is included in the minimal install... but it's located on CD
    2.

I had CD 1 mounted via NFS on an x86 machine for the install... and I tried
switching to CD 2 (unmounting, swap CD... and restart nfsd) - but you get a
complaint about media changed, etc... so I couldn't get it to work right.

I'm not sure if this is related to your problem... but it might not hurt to
go through after you select 'minimal install'... and uncheck the 'pads'
    package.

Or... Harold's suggestion for an NFS install... instead of direct from the
attached CD might not be a bad idea...
