Hey all, I have a SPARCStation 5 here at my house that I'm trying to connecto
via serial a. I do have null-modem cable with a gender-changer on one end
connecting the two. I've tried connecting to it both with HyperTerm from
Win98 and Win2K, and with minicom under Linux. I have tried both serial ports
on my box, but nothing comes up on the terminal screen. I've been guaranteed
that the SS 5 works, but it has no OS, HD, or FD in the machine. It does
power on, and it has 64 MB RAM. I don't have a Sun monitor, keyboard or
mouse, nor a Sun to VGA adapter for a monitor. I'm wanting to install either
Debian, Redhat, or NetBSD via network install, but I can't connect to it with
a terminal. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Oh, I also have a SS 2
that I can't connect to either. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I
don't know what! Could it be the gender-changer? Also, my setting for the
terminal are to emulate a VT-100 terminal, and the settings for the serial
port are 9600 8N1.
Thanks,
Alan Bryant
