Hi all,
all the kernel discussions left me with a bit of confusion:
From SuSE 7.1 CDs I have a 2.2.18 and a 2.4.2 kernel.
If I use a 2.2.18 kernel on a Sparcstation LX and a Sparcstation 5,
I get errors like "system call not implemented" mutiple times, the
last time I booted the 2.2.18 on my SS5, I got SCSI-bus reset error
messages from the kernel, it would not even boot.....
If I use 2.4.2 on both machines (LX and SS5) it works so far, but
sometimes
the machines hang (especially after burning CDs with xcdroast 0.98alpha..)
or applications crash which I think they should not do that so often
(konsole).
Additionally the consens is "kernel 2.4 on sparc32 is broken, use 2.2".
So my questions: Does anybody successfully use kernel 2.2.18 from the SuSE
CDs with an LX or a SS5 ? Or where can I get a newer (2.2.19) kernel for
Sparc32 ?
Thanks for any input,
Thomas
