I am having problems with connecting to my ISP from my U60 using wvdial. I
have everything set-up to this point to run wvdial.dod with
masquerading. In the testing phase, I noticed that while attempting to
connect I usually get the message "Sending $usename", and then something
like "Don't know what to do, starting pppd and hopping for the best".
Wvdial will then start pppd, and of course nothing works. I stopped
wvdial.dod and tried to run wvdial from the CLI with the same results,
sometimes it works, most of the time it does not. Now ...I had suspected
PERM problems with device modem or ttyS?, however that was not the
case. Next I tried to run everything in manual mode within a minicom
terminal emu. After send the same set of AT init and dial commands, it
works, I get the "NONE standard authentication request" and once
authenticated I can start ppp. At this point I am left to presume that I
will need to recompile wvdial for my platform, however I suspect that the
problem is related to a section of code handling the I/O from modem device
and is creating problems with parsing or lost or misconfigured
streams. This because of problems I have had trying to compile anything on
my platform that specifies including I/O for the U60.
Has anyone had any similar problems with this?
