keyboard mapping

Subject: keyboard mapping

    well, my problems with perl and apache eventually resolved themselves,
    however in the process i managed to muck up my keyboard mapping. at login
    the mapping is fine, however one i log in as my user, suddenly 2345...
    become asfghj... and none of hte other keys work. if i log in as any other
    user however its fine. i've gone through kde control center and it says all
    my keyboard layouts are generic 104 and "USA" so i'm at a loss. any ideas?
