    What are you running as a distro for the NFS server? What I do is that I
    put a tail -f /var/log/messages on a tty then I try to connect. That way I
    see in real time as it happens. If nothing shows up then the connections
    are not even getting through to the nfs server you then need to check
    ipchains logs /etc/hosts.deny and hosts.allow and also check that portmap
    and nfsd are running. Otherwise as far as concerns the directory, I
    usually just tell it /cdrom in my case and the intsallation process always
    finds the appropriate directories.
