First off, thanks to those who offered help with the NFS issues, turns
out whatever the problem was, went away when I finally got around to
trying again. I can now successfully start the install and get up to
the partitioning of the hard disk. This is where my newest problem
lies.
The disk I'm trying to install on never saw a SUN box before this, and
lived as a DOS disk. So, naturally it doesn't have the SUNLabel thing
on it. The problem is that fdisk seems to have problems writing to this
disk. Oddly enough it sees it fine, it cleared the one existing
partition
fine, but refuses to write the partition table. Is this tied to the
SUNLabel thing? If so, how do I write that to the disk (I know that its
basically doing an 's' in fdisk) without first having an installed OS
on the box? I don't have SCSI on my PC, so I can't just pop it into the
PC and do a dd of the label (if I even can do something like that). Any
help on this would be appreciated!
Just a quick recap of hardware:
SUN SparcClassic with 72M of memory
a standard 2 gig SCSI II hard drive
serial console. (No monitor/keyboard)
Thanks for any help!
