Are some SCSI disks simply not useable on Suns?

I have tried formatting and partitioning two different 2.1+GB drives, a
Fujitsu M2915-SAU and a Seagate ST32171N, on my IPC and on a SPARC 5 and I
get the same results, YaST2 hangs during the formatting of the root
partition "/" at between 89 - 94%. I know that formatting can take a while
towards the end of the formatting process, but these formatting attempts can
sit there for days, literally days! The machines are hung!

These disks do not show up as standard Sun disk types when using fdisk to
partition them, so I try to use custom configurations, using various
possible numbers of sectors per track with the same results no matter what
values I use. I've tried the default 62, 63, the lower end of the disk's
sectors per track, as well the upper end and the average.

    Help please!?
