    I had to give up on a disk a while ago :-(

    The disk I found unusable for my purposes was a IBM Ultrastar 18LZX,
    9.1GB. This is a "normal" drive with SCA connector, 1" high and I wanted
    to put it internally in my SS20. No matter what I did, probe-scsi did not
    detect the drive. I then got a Fujitsu disk and that one was up and
    running within minutes.

    After giving up on the IBM disk in the Sparc, I got me a 80 to 68/50 pin
    SCSI converter, and installed the disk in a P90 based fileserver on a
    50pin SCSI bus. It did not work right away, but after placing the "Force
    SE mode" jumper on the disk it came up. I even tried this trick on the
    disk when I fiddled with it in the SS20, but the result was not any
    better.

    I guess it might have worked on the SS20 if I had placed the disk in an
    external case and used the same converter and jumper.
