You had trouble installing Suse 7.1 on a Sparc 5 via a serial console.

First: Is this a 170Mhz SS5? That CPU was not supported by the older
kernels. The installers of any "older" linux distribution won't run on
this system. If you should manage to install linux on another system
and transfer the disk, you should be ok. Otherwise you could try the
just released Suse 7.3.

If your machine does NOT have the 170MHz cpu - I did not manage the
serial install on an SS10 with Suse 7.1 either. BTW: Stop-A is
emulated by sending a "BREAK".
