    Subject: [suse-sparc] SS5/170 again

    Hi Gurus,

someone has recently posted to this list that he/she succesfully uses
    SuSE7.3 on an SS5/170.
I read this with some interest since i have given linux (a 2.2.19 Kernel
and, being really desperate, a 2.4.xx version) on that machine several
gos - but it simply won't work reliably. The machine displays some
complaints about "unimplemented system calls" (which you can simply
ignore, IIRC), but besides that and even worse, it seems to run fine,
until it suddenly screws up when some (mostly network) load is put on
it. I finally gave it up and went for Solaris.

We all know that this 170MHz-topic has been discussed about 10 billion
times before and that no linux kernel, with whatever distro, supports
that particular TurboSparc processor - well, i believed so, 'till i read
that recent posting which raised some hope...

So here's my question: Does anybody know about a patch or hacked kernel
(probably 2.2.20) that might do the job or want to share experience how
(and if at all) it is possible to get Linux, preferably SuSE [;-)] running
    on that box.

Great many thanks in advance, any hint is appreciated
