    Well I solved my own problem. Audio is supported. The
    problem I was having is that KDE desktop starts its
    own audio server that uses the audio device all the time.
    This is why I could not open the audio device with my
    application. So I found out how to disable the kde
    audio server and my app works now. Sorry for the false alarm.
