hi,
In the last time I used my Ultra1 with solaris8 and also I've upgraded the
OpenBoot as to permit the 64bit operation of solaris. When I've retryed the
SuseLinux distro with 2.4.2 kernel, it wasn't working any more. The 2.2.x
kernel is still working and I used this one all the time afther installing
the solaris8, because I can write on UFS partitions. I was wondering if I am
the only one having this problem and if it is related to the upgrade to
OpenBoot. I don't ask about new 2.4.10 kernels which were reported to have
problems on Ultra1, but of 2.4.2 which I've ran without problems a lot of
time (one or two months before updating the OpenBoot). I don't exclude the
possibility that a memory chip is defective, but with 2.2.x (I don't remember
if it's 19 or another version) and solaris8 the computer is working prety
well (I've got some crashes in solaris when I was doing some insistant
operations with the external disk drive with a second SCSI controller, but
when working only with the two internal disks I've never got a problem and
the linux is installed on one of the internal disks).
Thanks,
Aurelian
