Hi all,
I'm a SPARC linux user from 2 years ago, really a RedHat SPARC Linux user :
-(.
From few month RedHat stop the support for SPARC, so now I run my
SPARCClassic
with an OLD RH 6.2, but many softwares are too old to use, so I want to
made a new
installation of SUSE LINUX 7.1 for SPARC. I boot with a tape, QIC-150 with
the
tftp32 image bacause my sun is floppy-less and CD-less, I install with
Yast2
[ very low :-( ] in text mode a "minimal" selection without X, after the
NSF
installation I install other software like Apache, PostgreSQL, DHCPD, SAMBA
ecc.
This SUN is my home server :-)
I have some newbie question :
1 - I want to use this box like telnet server but I don't be able to find
the telnetd
or a conf file to startup it, also in rpm files I don't be able to find one
:-(
Can any one help me to start a telnetd after a new sparc installation ?
... or I Must use SSH because in SUSE SPARC 7.1 there isn't a telnetd for
sec
reason ?
2 - I dowonload only first 3 iso cd immage, only the bin cd without the
source. Where
I can find the Kernel source ? Can I download it from a ftp o web site or I
must get
the two iso source image ? ( I use 2.2.18 Kernel )
I want to recompile the standard kernel to better performance
3 - after the installation I try to made a new user with useradd command
and with yast.
No error message but this tools don't create the home dir for the created
user. Why ?
When I login with new user ... no homedir available so the user logoin
direcly
in / file-system.
Anyone con help me ?
Thanks.
PS : I look that no netscape rpm are included into suse, why ? In rh I use
Netscape
on sparc linux with out core :-)
