I tried the new beta version and ran into trouble.

Tried to boot it on a Sparc Center 2000E (14x SM81-2),
got Data Access Violation after Unpacking...
Tried it on a Sparc Server 1000E (2x SM81), same.
The 7.1 Version install boots fine on these machines.
When I tried to install 7.1 on the 2000E I had first to
degrade the memory under 4GB to get it to install (It has 5GB).
Install works fine, after reboot it will just freeze when it should start
    the kernel.
I guess it doesn't like to get into SMP Mode.
Haven't tested it on the 1000E yet.

I tried the 7.3 on a SparcStation 20 (2x180Mhz HyperSparc) with the SX
    Graphics (24bit).
It will fail to start the Yast2 Install, it hangs after I while,
I do get a black screen with the Mouse X and that moves around.
Tried the 7.1 on the same machine and it works fine in install,
I did a minimal install so I guess it didn't load the 24bit driver
after reboot. Will try that tomorrow.

I would happy if someone could tell me why the 2000E would not
start. Sparc Center 2000 is listed as a supported machine.

I would love to run Linux on 14 CPUs (Max 20) and 3.5GB Memory,
5GB if it would let me :) It would not run on 4GB, which would
be the 32bit limit, but sun4d has larger address space.

Anyone with any experience with linux on sun4d ?

If my reply address is different than below please reply to list or use
    below address.

    Hi,

I made a beta1 for SuSE Linux 7.3/SPARC. You can download the iso image
    from

    ftp://ftp-suse.uni-freiburg.de/pub/suse/sparc/beta-7.3/beta1-sparc.iso

    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 680460288 Sep 7 12:40 beta1-sparc.iso

    MD5: b233824ea41002bfe7dc72cf27c8da9d beta1-sparc.iso

    Known problems:
    - Old YaST1 is untested, YaST2 works fine over serial Console, in text
      mode and with X11.
    - LVM configuration with YaST2 does not work in the moment, but you
      can use the lvm tools
    - reiserfs only works on UltraSPARC
    - X11 configuration: If you cannot configure X11 with YaST2, please
      deinstall "sax2" and "sax2_sbus" with "rpm -e sax2 sax2_sbus" and
install sax2 for PCI cards or sax2_sbus for SBUS/UPA cards like
      Creator3D, LEO, CG6, ...

    News:
    - Kernel 2.4.9 on UltraSPARC
    - Kernel 2.2.19 on 32bit SPARC
    - glibc 2.2.4
    - XFree86 4.1.0 for all cards
    - LVM
    - reiserfs on UltraSPARC
    - lot of new YaST2 modules
    - YaST2 can change boot-device and add an "linux" alias for booting
    - Support for Blade 100 and Blade 1000

Please send bug reports to suse-sparc@suse.com or feedback@suse.de

     Thanks,
       Thorsten
