    Ok, I have the same SPARCstation 5 in nearly the same configuration.

    Some of the problems you wrote are problems due the fact that the
    CD-ROM had problems to read self burned CDs (this is clear from the
    log messages, this are read errors from the CD drive). I don't get
    the SCSI problems on my SPARCstation 5 with 85MHz and I don't get them
    on my 110 MHz version. But I only have one internal CD drive and one
    internal hard disk.

    Hm, which filesystems do you choose ? Do you have the /var/log/y2log file ?

    YaST1 will be removed completley for installation, it has far to much
    bugs on SPARC and to much features are missing.
