Ok, lets say that the kernel modules has a bug and receives a malformed
intruction or a normal intruction but the module can't handle it
properly. But instead of crashing, the modules should try to shut down
the module and then turn it up again to try to keep working as if
    nothing happend ;).

So, you would notice that the kernel modules did reset properly the hme
card, because after the error (probably a couple of seconds later) the
    card keeps on working properly.

You are telling me that it did happend with kernel 2.4.17, right?

Well, one thing you could try so you don't have to power cycle the box,
is to compile the sunhme support as a module, and if it happens, you can
try to remove the modules and insert it back in.

Please get back to me. If none of this works, you could have found a
    kernel bug.
