(Quoting myself) "the modules should try to shut down the module"
Damn... Please replace it with shut down the device.

Why I'm suggesting this, is that if modules failed to reset the device
by it self, maybe unloading the module and loading it up again will.

I'm pretty positive that HME stands for Happy Meal Eth. Aldo "Hundred
Megabit Ethernet" is more apropiate for it ;)

I don't have an idea if SuSE does have another kernel package ready for
the sparc port, I'm not a SuSE user nor I'm familiarized with it.

The reason why I insist in using 2.4.17 and even 2.4.18pre9, is because
we could be craking our heads with an already solved issue. You can
clearly see lots of "Network updates" and "sparc updates" from David
Miller in the kernel ChangeLogs from 2.4.14 to 2.4.18pre9, so the fix
    could be somewhere in there.

I can send you a stripped down .config file for the 2.4.17 kernels I use
on the Ultra5s we have here if it helps you in anything.

I did missed the SCSI and crash issues that you comment here. I'm gonna
check the mailing lists again and get back to you.
