I have the (probably bad) habbit of putting module load in rc.modules in
Slackware, but it should look like
alias eth0 sunhme

Yes, I latter read so. Interesting name of it. Also interesting theory
from Ethan Dicks.

I'll look it up and send it privately.

I hope *I* don't send the wrong impression to this list and to its
readers from this answer.
I am the main developer for a project called Splack, which is a
Slackware based sparc distribution. If someone is interested in a couple
more details, more information is available here[1]. At the time the
distribution is being used on several main servers here at Universidad
Latina de Costa Rica, and I'm almost ready to start recompiling X and
related aplications (aldo there are some existing X Gnome and KDE
packages). If you have time to spare and you care to help to a young
sparc distribution, I could use a hand in the splack testing process.
Since I'm not an experienced Unix user[2] nor a kernel hacker, I'm
always trying to read as mutch as I can to lear even more about linux.
So I have joined the SuSE (quite recently), Debian and even Redhats
mailing list ;) to read about common issues about the sparc
distributions.[3]
I also tend to start a project to use the SunPCi cards on linux, so I
want to get to know people inside the linux-sparc world.
And of course, I do like to help people with not distribution specific
issues like yours.

example
[3] For example, I can't get the splack CD to boot on a blade, and I've
noticed that SuSE's can. Can anyone please tell me how SuSE cds are
made?
