I guest that the freeze problem, is realted to the DMA issue. Use hdparm
to let the hard drive and the CD not to use DMA.

The console on the Rage LX is a little fscked up even on kernel 2.4.17.
David Miller has already fixed this on the 2.4.18-pre series.
I also tried to install a blade 100 with SuSE, and I had some other
issues. Yast2 doesn't get X up properly, so you would have to use the
yast2 text interface[1].
I also had another problem with didn't allowed me *at all* to finish the
instalation process. When the installer is ready to partition and format
the drive, it just told me it wasn't able to format it. I didn't tell me
why.
The installer also showed up a lot of minor errors at the console.
Since you also live in Costa Rica, perhaps you could come here and we
can try to debug it.
[1] Which IMHO needs some rewriting... its to unconfortable. And this
comment, is made by a guy who regulary uses dialog interfaces ;)
/me *really* needs to know how the hell to create a SuSE bootable Cd...
someone... please...
