I'm trying to install from the 7.3 iso's onto a scsi disk formerly used
for Solaris. YasT2 bombs under every effort I've tried, and I can't help
thinking it has to do with the assumptions being made about the disk.
The typical scenario is that I get past the formatting of the partitions
(apparently) and then am told something like "Can't mount /dev/sda4 to
/mnt/". This is followed by "The module inst_rpmcopy does not work".
Sometimes I get only the second message. Other times I get as far as
installing some of the packages (under a pure "default install") but then
the install hangs in the middle of a package.
My install is being done on a scsi chain with one disk (/dev/sda at id
0) and the cdrom (at id 6), on an Ultra1. I have a working disk with 7.1
installed so I have even tried first formatting the disk in question under
the old 7.1 version, then removing the 7.1 disk and rebooting to try the
7.3 install.
Can anyone suggest another trick to try? Is there any way to boot the
system from cdrom so that I can run fdisk directly (rather than relying
on YaST assumptions about the disk)? At least this way I would know the
disk was being handled correctly, or in a familiar way....
