Sorry but this was not my first Problem with your Distribution an i know the
7.3-PC-Version very well!
My first install with SuSE-Kernel 2.2.20 (not official Kernel release)
without SMP work but it was very slow.
All Thing's with SMP seem to be _very_ dangerous on Sparc! I take a look at
the Code in arch/sparc/*.c|h and found many big Problems... with and without
SMP. I tried to run the Sparc with 2.4.14 and more Problems came up. My next
step was to patch the 2.4.14 Kernel up to the actual 2.4.17 with official
Kernelpatches but this was impossible. The most patches mismatched. Damn!
Some more Distribution-Problems like disabled Telent, disabled Inetd (in
Minimalconfig) , no raid5-Modul in Yast2-firstinstall accesible, make it
difficult to administer a Console-les Sparc. The ssh-server is buggy and
crash the Engine by starting Yast2/Yast(vice versa) and accessing the Sparc
via tty per default is disabled. A nice Box without any way to get in!
Great, my SuSE-SParc is secure!!! "the best way to get a stable System is to
disable the User"....
Solaris (2.6 and 2.8) work without any Trouble on my Sparc - there is NO
Hardware-Problem!
The SuSE-SPARC-7.3 is ___very___ unstable (chaotic) and far away to get
stabilized (2.4.17) !!!
