I would check your kernel first. When you get the message on bootup,
that error message is generated from the kernel.
You might be right about having none of your tty1-6's working either.
Then again, I might be totally off. This is a newer kernel than that on
the Distro. So I would assume, you need to check your settings in the
kernel.

Subject: [suse-sparc] (Inittab / syslog)
Hello,
a Question by using SuSE 7.3 with (K 2.2.20-SMP)
Imagine a SS10 with 2 RT626-CPUs and 128 MB Ram.
A cg6 is pluged but not used, pure serial Installation with BProm-Flags
like
input-device=ttya
output-device=ttya
and no Keyboard attached, booting via Silo from HD
On startup a MSG arrives:
Starting syslog ...
syslogd: /dev/tty10: no such device:
...
1. Is this a Problem in syslog.conf File and how to fix this?
(REMing (#) the line in syslog.conf)
2. If tty10 do not exist, tty1-6 (Consoles in inittab) may be broken
too?
And how to fix this?
3. Wow to Setup a Serial TTY like ttya / ttyS0 in rc.config?
4. do exist a Sparc-Serial_only_-Howto?
best Regards
