Hi all,
My saga continues, but thanks to Rolf, I got a little bit closer. Here's
my situation: I originally loaded my Sparc 2 with SuSE 7.3 and used LVM
as the filesystem and ext2 for root. The system installed fine with the
2.2.20 kernel, but I want to use iptables so I grabbed the latest cvs from
vger.samba.org's structure for 2.4. I compiled it with kgcc and made the
modules, and installed everything. When I booted it, it got as far as
Freeing memory from the kernel and then just froze. I thought that it
might have something to do with the LVM since during boot, it also had a
couple of errors about bad checksums on the disk labels of the disks that
I used in the volume group.
I then reinstalled with no LVM and used ext2 for all filesystems. I got
the kernel again and compiled, made modules, etc. When I rebooted, it
again hung at the process of Freeing unused memory from the kernel.
Can anyone tell me how to sucessfully get a 2.4 kernel to compile and work
on a sparc32 machine?
Ed
