    Subject: [suse-sparc] X doesn't run on Blade100 (sync problem)

    Hi,

    i just installed SuSE-Sparc 7.3 on my Blade 100 with the on-board PGX-64
    graphic-card in dual-boot with Solaris.
i can't get X to run. the problem seems to be that my monitor (not the
original Sun monitor) doesn't sync with the graphic card (just get a
black screen). It seems as the sync frequencies are higher as the ones i
    specify.

i tried to copy the screen related parts of the XF86Config from my x86
computer running also 7.3 with the same monitor, it didn't help.

i searched the web and i found at

    http://docs.sun.com/htmlcoll/coll.724.1/iso-8859-1/SBLADE100SVC/appdC.htm
that the Ati Rage XL uses 29.499MHz on the Blade as reference clock
instead of the 28.636Mhz usead by default by the driver. so according
    to http://www.xfree86.org/4.1.0/ati5.html#5
    i added
            Option "ReferenceClock" "29.499Mhz"
to the device section in my XF86Config. now the screens flashes for a
fraction of second, and then gets dark again for some seconds. sometimes
the right picture appears for 1-2 seconds, but usually shorter.

according to the mailing-list archive some people had also this kind of
problems, did you find a solution ?

i should add that the same screen works fine with the same computer when
i run Solaris, as long as i specify a VESA-compatible mode and not one
    of Sun's own modes.

    thanks for any help !

    Martin Herren
