    That is not my experience.

    I was not able to use a "IBM Ultrastar 18LZX 9.1GB" in my SS20. I tried
    with and without the "Force SE mode" jumper on the drive, but
    "probe-scsi" did not find it. I was forced to replace the IBM drive with
    a Fujitsu drive, and that one was running within minutes.

    I later installed the IBM drive in a PC using a 80 to 68/50 adapter. It
    did not work there either at first, but when I used the "Force SE mode"
    jumper it came up.
