     I encountered the same problem on a Enterprise 4000 machine. It seems a
    2.2.. series kernel works as far as the keyboard and mouse while a 2.4...
    kernel will not. A 2.4.7 kernel will boot and actually run just fine. I
    had to shutdown or control through telnet. The one problem I had with with
    the mouse on a 2.2.22 and otherkernels is the mouse pointer would sometimes
    go everywhere on the screen with butten events, causing lots of apps to
    open. I tried another keyboard, mouse, and clock board, which the mouse
    attaches to with no luck.

    Unfortunately I cannot neither select the installation language :-( Yast
    starts up but the keyboard doesn't respond.
    If I choose the graphical installation the mouse doesn't move neither
    when X11 starts up.

    I had a problem with the install locking up on my Sparc Ultra 5, it
    would
    boot the CD and start YAST but hang up when it was making a keyboard
    selection, the screen after the language selection.
    I found that I could install if I select US English, this, I decided,
    was
    because I have a US keyboard/system but was trying to install for the
    UK. (I
    am UK based). RedHat 6.2 went on to the same system without a hitch, but
    it
    isn't as nice as SuSE.

    Is this similar to what you have Davide.
