I actually configured the sound (from the control panel) and tested it.
This was after the install completed but before I shut it down, powered
it off, and then (the next day) powered the machine back up. I am 99.9%
sure that the install had completely finished (it rebooted by itself at
one point and then started back up and ran X config and a few other
things). It was when all of this was complete that I ran the sound
config stuff (this option was presented at the end of the install).
After the sound config had exited and all looked good I shut the machine
down.
