You know, this is one thing that really bothers me about the SPARC port.
Just why is key gen so slow on the SPARC? This isn't isolated to the initial
keygen -- each and every ssh connection takes several tens of seconds to
start up on my Ultra 5/10/30's on 100Mb Ethernet connections. Once started,
throughput on scp is 2.5-3MBytes per second, which is not too bad. But the
startup is pretty slow.
The Ultra 10 I have, with an UltraSPARC IIi 360, took ten minutes to do the
dsa keygen on the first reboot -- yet an Intel Celeron 400 takes maybe 60
seconds. The Ultra 30's, with 248MHz CPU's, took a little longer. What's up
with that?
