    The Message about the ""module char-major-108" is "normal" see the SuSE
    Support it depends on the kernel 2.4.xx

    the rp-pppoe 3.3 is running on my Sparc 5 (32Bit,the same like you) but
    without DEMAND! in the /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf if you switch on the DEMAND
    Parameter it does not connect to the ISP . I have no solution at the moment
    for this maybe it solved with Kernel 2.4.xx
