    If all else fails, try redownloading the ISO file for first disk &
    re-burning it. Or go buy the package with a pressed CD. This sounds too
    much like an error in the ISO. You may have gotten lucky with your other
    machines. Ultra 1 is 64 bit machine which will use 2.4 kernel, your other
    machines were Sparc 32 bit machines which would've installed w/ 2.2 kernel.
    Hence, the reason those installs went on without any problems.
