Hello.
I have an Ultra 10 here with the following problem:
I tried to install SuSE 7.3 on this machine. During installation of a
package from the second CD over NFS, the whole machine crashed. As the
boot loader was already installed after CD1, I tried to boot the
installed system. This worked just fine up to the point after shmfs
got mounted. After that the system reproduceably crashed either with
the cursor not blinking any longer and stopping any keyboard
interaction or with a kernel oops.
After adding some debug output to the boot scripts, I found out that
the crash always happens _not before_ starting boot.setup, but the
first line of boot.setup is never executed. Because of that I assume,
the crash happens when forking the bash that should execute
boot.setup.
Is this a well known problem? What do you suggest to do?
- Upgrade to a more recent kernel?
- Post the Oops?
- Something completely different? ;-)
