No, I never did figure out the location of the version string SuSE uses for
the current-vs-installed version comparison - this is presumably the basis
for the 'CDs not the same version' error...
But when I asked the same question some time ago, someone on the list
mentioned that the install does work if these error dialogs are simply
dismissed / ignored. It does!
I also spent, as some of you have, a lot of time thinking I had downloaded
corrupted images. I hadn't! If the MD5 sums check out, don't bother
re-downloading the images. One gotcha: there are versions of MD5SUM which
donšt do a 'binary' checksum; for example, there's one on DOS/Windows for
which the '-b' option must be set. Yours truly was using this one, and
getting completely accurate, but completely wrong(!), non-binary SUMS.
If anyone finds the location of the SuSE installation version string, I hope
he/she will post it here...
