Dear Suse Sparkers,
I have been trying to escape Solaris, but can't get mirroring to work.
Under Solaris I used DiskSuite to mirror the entire machine,
root, var, usr, swap and homes.
Under Suse I can't get any RAID 1 to work.
On a tip from this list I have the Sun disk lable protected
by not RAIDing the first cylinder.
Scrambled partition tables killed my first few tries.
But while YaST attempts to set up the partition
it fails to do something vital (in loading some kernel modules?)
and the resulting partition is death to any process that touches it.
Appears as "D" in top, sleeping uninteruptably.
Meanwhile in /var/spool/messages there are dire messages about segfaults,
and missing major and minor device numbers.
Sorry I can't paste in more specific stuff but I can't get in right now.
Has anyone had any luck using software RAID and LVM under Suse-Sparc?
What tricks are nessesary?
TIA,
michaelj
