Find another Linux....Suse hasn't been supported for sparc for a while. You probably have the final version for sparc. I switched to debian (www.debian.org) If you want to see who else still makes distros of Linux for sparc check www.linuxiso.org, they have a lot of distros listed there.

Hi all!
Im new to this list, Fredrik 27, software writer from Sweden, likes heavymetal music and fast bikes.
New to SUN but familiar with SUSE.
Well, a friend gave (nice friend) me a old Netra (like 400MHz, 512RAM, 2x8GB scsi.) I said thanks and planned to install SUSE on it and use it for a nameserver.
Ok just to plug the keyboard, well nope, a few hours later I got LOM to work with my cable and wintendo XP over hyperterminal. Sweet.
I didn't manage to get to the ok> prompt until I tried booting without the disks, ok I got to the ok prompt.
If I tried probe-ide-all I can se my cdrom on primary slave (if I remember correct) and the correct modelname of the cdrom driver.
I run "boot cdrom"
It says
Cant open disk label package
Cant open boot device
The cd that's in a homemade (with nero) with suse 7.3 for sparc, downloaded from suse.
I have tried three other cd-rom players.
Any ideas of what I should check/do next?
Are 7.3 a good version to use on my server, any alternatives?
Best regards
/Fredde
